Hi all

I have the same problem as MWG82. Today I tried to find lake which should be on route between CBB7 and CAE7 but there was only forest Shocked

My config:
Win XP 32bit
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB RAM
ATI 1650 Pro

FSX is installed on drive E. Full path is "E:\Games\FSX". I've checked the registry and there is everything OK.
In attachment you can find my terrain.cfg.
I hope you can help me

Regards, Rafal

Rafal,

Before using the attached fixed-up terrain.cfg, can you confirm:

1. You were 100% sure that FSX was not running when you installed Van+
2. With FSX not running, you have tried running Start->All Programs->FSAddon->Vancouver+ FSX->Uninstall, then chosen "Repair", then ru-run the Van+ configurator, saved settings and exited, then verified the problem in FSX
3. You have checked the properties on the terrain.cfg file and can confirm that the "read-only" box is not checked

Thanks!

Jon

Hi Marklar,

I have tested your terrain.cfg with a custom install of my own to 'G:\Games\FSX' and the install was successful.

However, I did need to edit the registry key InstallPath to point to the modified directory.

Are you sure your registry key 'SetupPath' has "E:\Games\FSX\" as the value?

There are very limited possibilities why the terrain.cfg has not been updated, the most likely culprit is a bad registry path.

Would you mind copying and pasting the value of the key in your post so I can see what it reads. ( Note: the key should be found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ... this is important as VanPlus does not use HKEY_CURRENT_USER)

I have sent Jon proper steps for idenitifying these issues and he should be updating his sticky shortly.

Cheers

I have the same problem. My FSX path is E:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ and I went through the suggested test and reinstall, but no results: water still not showing.

I opened my terrain.cfg file and did not find the entries for the V+ textures. I manually added then, changed the total on the first line and... voilá! It worked!

AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Shocked Shocked Shocked

Is there anything else that I need to change in my terrain.cfg? Should I e-mail it to you? To what address?

Best regards,
Sérgio Quadros

I never install addons when FSX is running.

I did not do it.

I checked it. read-only box was unchecked

Anyway, terrain.cfg which I found in your attachment works fine and problem is solved. Thank you very much for help

from my registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\microsoft games\flight simulator\10.0]
"SetupPath"="E:\\Games\\FSX"

Hi, Scot.

I will be sending you my register key, when I get home. But I think you'll find nothing unusual in it. And I'm pretty sure it shows the correct FSX path in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, I checked this with FSXRegUtility.exe.

Maybe there is a clue. My FSX path is E:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\, which is not the default one. I read some of the others complaining and they also have unusual paths (E:\Games\whatever, G:\something, not the canonical c:\Program Files\Microsoft Games....). I had problems with other installers too: one installed planes at E:\Microsoft Flight Simulator XSimObjects (without the slash), and other was looking for a file in a path without the slash, too.

Maybe there is something that goes wrong when you install FSX to a custom path?

Best regards, and congrats for this GREAT product,
Sérgio Quadros

Hi Squadros,

Actaully we have tested on non default simulator paths. I am able to install to a portable drive and still update the terrain.cfg.

The factor that may prevent this is the registry key. It needs to have a path to your non default installation, without it you will experience the same issue you have reported.

Cheers and thanks, looking forward to more info Smile

Yes, sounds reasonable. But I am pretty sure that I have the correct path in my registry key, and those installers I mentioned messed up despite that.

There is something strange going on, no doubt. My terrain.cfg is not read only, my registry is OK, I have performed the installation again and still terrain.cfg was not updated. The same happened to other users. Go figure...

Indeed, Sérgio, there must be something unique about that those systems where it isn't installing properly ...

Scot, my registry key, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\...\Flight Simulator\10.0\SetupPath reads:

E:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

FSXRegUtility.exe shows it with the slash:

E:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\

Well, it seems to be OK.

Well, I guess my manual edit of terrain.cfg did not end alright. I must confess: I have just taken the file that you gave to Rafal, copied and pasted all the V+ texture entries. The result is attached, for a position near Chilliwack.

Other than that, my water was completely black when set to Low 1.x. The photo was taken with High 1.x. I have X Graphics installed.

I will attach my terrain.cfg in the next post, just in case you want to check it out.

Hi Squadros,

That's the problem; there should be a backslash on the end of the registry path. You will find that when you add a '\' to the end of the subkey, VanPlus will install fine and update your terrain.cfg.

I will add an additional fix for others that may have modified the key and forgot to add a backslash.

Thank you getting back with the info, I am fairly certain this is the the issue that plagued others as well.
